I Played Hooky and Here’s What Happened

Ok another vulnerable post. It’s this or therapy right? At least this way no one reads it.

I went through a bit of rough patch the past 3 months and I don’t have a clear reason why. I blamed my hormones, because that’s what I always do. I have to think that at some point I have to recognize it is me, not my hormones.

Basically for these past few months, I became shut off and moody. I stopped doing things I enjoy doing. On the rare occasion when I did go out, I was miserable. I shut down at work and got caught up in this pointless routine. Work, TV, sleep, repeat.

I didn’t enjoy weekend trips as much as I should have. I didn’t enjoy the shows I saw. I stopped writing in my journal. I stopped dancing. I stopped cooking healthy meals and ate more junk food. I stopped going to church. I’m sure this contributed to my crappy mood.

I’d like to tell you that I have answer for how I came out of my funk, but I don’t.

I think for me it was time and recognizing I needed to make some changes. I started eating healthy. I started working out. I went dancing. I committed to writing. Going to international vacations helped too.

Part 2

I wrote the beginning part of this around June. I obviously didn’t finish it and never posted. It is now October and I have more to say. I called in sick to work and took a mental health day.

I could go into the details of what stressed me, but honestly I’m scared of what people might say. I recognize that what happened was truly no big deal and others go through way worse. However, that does not diminish the way I felt and how I needed to handle it. I will simply say it was a bad Monday.

I went to work Tuesday, but by that afternoon I knew I would be ditching Wednesday.

To start my day, I slept in. It was amazing. It was 9:00 am when I got out of bed to make breakfast. Simple potato and eggs, but cooking always makes me feel better. I put on an episode of RuPaul while eating. After breakfast I went for a short walk to the leasing office to drop off rent and add money to my laundry card. Back in the apartment, I cleaned the kitchen and took the trash out. I took another break to binge season 2 of Disenchantment while I also did laundry. In the afternoon, I baked homemade apple pie. I made the dough from scratched and cut up fresh apples. I should say I made pies because I used a cupcake tray to make mini apple pies. They turned out delicious and I went to the grocery store to buy ice cream. I also bought salad for lunch and freezer meals for snacks. I usually eat healthier, but stress brought up some old cravings. Once I put away the groceries, I went to the gym. Endorphins are truly amazing. After getting my butt kicked (literally), I broke out all my nice bath salts, scrubs, facials, candles, and lotions. I had a relaxing bath and spa night. I spent some time journaling, brewed my favorite tea, finished reading my novel.

Again, I’m not an expert. I don’t have all the answers. I don’t even know the point of this. It helps me to write it out and maybe it’ll help someone else to read it? Figure out what your favorite things are and spend time doing them. If you can’t take a work day off, set aside a Sunday. Take yourself out on a date. Cheat on your diet. Drink a glass of wine – or three. Talk it out with someone close to you or journal if you’re more comfortable with that.

Game of Thrones – Final Season

Episode 6 – The End

Opens with Tyrion walking through his destroyed home. Jon and Davros are with him as they walk past the burned bodies. We see the mother/daughter and the horse toy again. Tyrion breaks off from the group to find his family. Jon and Davros run into Greyworm executing the few soldiers that DID survive. Jon decides to take the issue up with Dany directly and Greyworm kills the men. Tyrion has a moment in the map room with the ash falling like snow as he continues towards the escape tunnel. He climbs his way through the rubble hoping that his siblings escaped. He sees Jaime’s golden hand in a pile of rocks and weeps as he clears the rubble from his siblings faces. We cut to Arya watching Jon walk through the Dothraki (WHO SHOULD BE DEAD) and Unsullied on his way to confront Dany. A very large Targaryen banner is draped over the wall and Greyworm looks like he’s been there even though he was slitting throats two seconds ago. Dany arrives on Drogon and there’s an awesome shot of her with dragon wings.

Dany is speaking without a mike/speaker to her army which is made of three different cultures with three different languages. She starts speaking direct to the Dothraki from her platform. Very tyrant like. Oh and she promotes Greyworm to the same job he has been doing? Dany switches over to speaking to the Unsullied as Tyrion arrives. She never speaks the common tongue for the Westeros men. Brave little Tryion walks up to Dany and publicly throws away his Hand pin. Dany arrests him and walks back to the Keep. Arya sneaks up on Jon and says she knows a killer when she sees one. Also, Jon didn’t know Arya was in King’s Landing during the battle until this moment. Jon goes to speak with Tyrion in his cell/room. Tyrion asks Jon what’s on the other side of dying since Jon did die. Jon admits he can’t justify Dany’s actions, but she’s still the queen. GIVE HIM BETTER LINES. Tyrion says Dany is Fire and Blood – the family motto. Jon goes on to try to justify Dany’s action, but Tyrion points out Jon wouldn’t have burnt the city down. Tyrion points out that until now she was destroying evil men and they encouraged her. Now she is confident in her judicial power and is taking it too far in an effort to achieve her destiny. Tyrion goes on to say he loves Dany but not as successfully as Jon. WHERE DID THIS COME FROM? IS IT ROMANTIC LOVE? Tyrion explains Dany is a threat to the people and will keep killing, but Jon says he can’t stop her. Tyrion points out that Sansa and Arya will not bend the knee. Jon has to choose what to do to decide everything. Let Dany kill everyone or take advantage of his claim.

Jon comes across Drogon hiding under the snow (or is it still ashes) acting as Dany’s watchdog. Dany is in the throne room letting her victory sink in. We get a lovely twist on the theme song playing in the background. She sees Jon walk in and reminisce about what she imagined the throne would look like. Jon kills the mood by scolding her for the killing. Jon asks Dany for forgiveness for Tyrion and for the people. She says no. These are necessary steps for a world of mercy. Jon asks about other people’s opinions and Dany answers they don’t get a say. Dany says let’s rule together. Jon says I am Groot – I mean, you are my queen. They make out, then he stabs her. I like that Jon was the one to kill her, but the death was a little too quick and not bloody enough? I guess it was a heart wound and I’m not an expert, but I was expecting a little more. Jon weeps over her and Drogon shows up. Drogon nudged Dany’s body like he was trying to wake her up. He looks like he was gonna burn Jon and I’d finally get my he can’t burn moment, but Drogon took it out on the throne instead. It was forged by dragon fire and was destoryed by dragon fire. So the big question is, why did Drogon burn the throne? Does he realize that the throne was the reason for Dany’s conquest, madness, and death? Anyway, he picks up Dany’s body and peaces out.

Cut to weeks later??

Tyrion’s still in his cell and gets escorted by Greyworm to a council of every important character left – even Edmure and Robin make appearences. Sansa is upset that Greyworm is still keeping Jon as prisoner. Yara is defending Greyworm because she swore to follow Dany who freed them from Cersei’s tyrant reign. Davros again is the peacekeeper between everyone. Tyrion somehow talks his way out of his problems again by telling them to choose a new king or queen. Edmure Tully stands up to make his case (he is experienced) but Sansa tells him to shut up. Sam stands up and pitches democracy, but everyone laughs. They ask Tryion who he would choose and he says BRAN? BITCHFACE, THREE EYED RAVEN BRAN?? Because of stories? I get they were going for the shock factor, but come on. Make him a maester or historian or advisor, not king. And Bran responds with WHY DO YOU THINK I CAME ALL THIS WAY?? Did he know this the whole time? Anyway, everyone votes for Bran except for his own sister, Sansa. She declares the North will remain an independent kingdom. Tyrion names him Bran the Broken which I think is insulting. Tyrion hated being called the Imp so he calls Bran the Crippled. Bran names Tyrion his Hand. Tyrion and Greyworm protest it.

Tyrion goes to Jon’s cell and says the compromise is to send Jon to the Night’s Watch. BTW since Jon can’t take a wife or father children that is the end of another house. Jon asks Tyrion if what they did was right. Tyrion said ask me in 10 years. Greyworm accepted the justice of a life sentence? Does he realize Jon’s going back to his wildling friends and his neglected dog? Not a huge punishment. The Unsullied leave Westeros and sail for Naarth. WHICH IS SO SWEET. Greyworm is going to liberate his dead girlfriend’s people. Jon says goodbye to the Starks. Sansa’s like I’m sorry you’re going to the Watch and I’m ruling the North. Arya announces she’s sailing west of Westeros. Jon asks if she has her needle and I cried. Jon apologizes for not being there for Bran, and for like the third time, Bran is like you were where you needed to be.

Brienne writes Jaime’s story in the Kingsguard book – leaving out the bad parts of course. Ending his page with “Died protecting his Queen.” Poor girl. There’s a redhead up north who would appreciate you. Tyrion shows up for the first small council meeting. He’s so nervous, it’s adorable. Sam’s finally Grandmaester and delivers A Song of Ice and Fire written by Archmaester Ebrose (who?). Tyrion is curious to know what is written about him and Sam says he’s not even mentioned. Bran arrives, asks where Drogon is, says he’ll find him, and leaves. PODRICK IS A KNIGHT. HE’S SO GROWN UP IN HIS ARMOR SUIT. Tyrion makes Bronn Master of Coin and Lord of Highgarden. Davros is Master of Ships. Jon arrives at the Wall and is greeted by Tormund and Ghost. Sansa is Queen in the North. Arya is sailing west on a ship. Jon (Lord Commander?) and the wildlings go beyond the Wall for some reason. There’s no threat so maybe the people are going home? Why don’t they stay at the castles? Isn’t it still Winter? Why is there still a Night’s Watch at all?

Overall it was disappointing. But a petition to have them remake the season is ridiculous. It is really hard to end a series and make everyone happy. Especially a show with this amount of hype. We didn’t want the series to end and we all had our own theories on how it should end. It was never going to meet our expectations. I’m just curious how the show’s ending will effect the books. George RR Martin gave David and Dan the outline for the ending. He told them his plan was to have Dany go mad, Jon kill her, and Bran be king. It’s just the way the tv show delivered it was rushed and confusing. I think Martin would have done better and maybe still will? Or will he change the stories because of angry internet comments?

Game of Thrones – Final Season

Episode 5

(side note: I’m posting this late but it was written before I watched the finale)

Varys is writing a note detailing Jon’s identity, how Ned hid him, and how he’s the true heir. It is unclear if this was the first note or if others got out. One of his little birds comes in (seen in Winterfell crypt) and says Dany’s men are keeping an eye on her. Varys says greater the risk, greater the reward. Jon arrives and Varys confronts him about claiming the throne. Tyrion proves again how dumb he’s been. He tells Dany about Varys even though she heard it from her spies first. She feels betrayed by Jon/Tyrion/Varys and is still grieving the loss of her dragon. Feeling betrayed and isolated certainly doesn’t help her sanity. We get a scene of Varys writing another note but he burns the evidence before we can read it. He also takes his rings off which I saw an article saying that meant something (didn’t actually read it though). Varys is escorted to the beach for his execution ceremony. Tyrion confesses he was the one who told Dany and Varys says he hopes he’s wrong about Dany being a mad queen. Tyrion and Varys’ friendships was one of the oldest surviving ones throughout the series and Tyrion does feel guilty for turning him in. Side note: is Dany still Mother of Dragons or is it Dragon now? Anyway, Drogon burns Varys and we move on. RIP another character.

You can see Jon’s starting to have doubts about Dany. Dany and Greyworm are mourning Mesandai. Dany gives Greyworm Mesandai’s collar and he throws it into the fire. Greyworm and Jon switch places as Dany says I told you so to Jon. Dany talks about Sansa like she’s her enemy, which I guess she is. Dany kisses Jon, and again, Jon is the first one to pull away and Dany’s not happy about it. “Let it be fear”. Cut to war council. Tyrion is fighting for the innocent people, but Dany just wants to burn the city. Dany agrees to call off the attack once the bells ring in surrender. She tells Tyrion that they caught Jaime trying to return to Cersei – another failure on Tyrion’s part. Dany warns that his next failure will be the last one. With that being said, Tyion decides to let Jaime escape (parallel to Jaime freeing Tyrion). The stupidest Lannister – who got caught because he forgot to take off his golden hand. Tryion gives Jaime and Cersei an escape plan. Tyrion says if he gets executed for saving the people of King’s Landing from burning, it’ll be worth it. I’ll get into it later, but this episode’s getting a lot of hate. I honestly love how they dealt with the Lannister’s this episode. Tyrion loves his family and wants the best for Jaime, Cersei, and the incest baby. Jaime despite everything still loves his sister, and his sister loves him. They take it too far, but a loving family is a redeemable Lannister trait.

The battle begins at Blackwater with Dany/Drogon taking out the scorpions on Iron Fleet. At King’s Landing, we see the crowd of innocent people retreating to safety as the army forms up. In the crowd, is the mother and daughter we will see throughout the battle. Arya and the Hound are also there with Jaime a few steps behind them. Arya and the Hound make it into the Keep before the gates close but Jaime has to find another way. Tyrion again tells Jon to call off the men when the bells ring. Cersei is at her perch overlooking the city where the Sept used to be. The unsullied and northern men face the golden company waiting, until Drogon burns the gate from behind them and clears the path. There are dothraki in the scene? SOME SURVIVED? Greyworm kills Banker Boy. The Unsullied and Dothraki are leading the charge which is sending the foreign usurper propaganda Cersei was feeding the city. Maester Frankenstein delivers the bad news to Cersei that the fleet and scorpions are destroyed. Cersei says her men will defend her. Cut to shot of the men dropping their swords in surrender lolz. Dany/Drogon is chilling on a rooftop (open target if there was another scorpion, just saying). Everyone is screaming ring the bells for a few minutes until the bells actually ring – which should just be taken as surrender. Someone finally rings the bells to Tryion’s relief, but Dany decides to burn the city anyway.

Now my problem with this is obviously Dany killing innocent people for no reason. Is it revenge? Is it grief? Is it PMS? This show has done so well with strong women characters and then made Dany so emotional. I get it. It’s her crazy genes from her father, but she could have gone totally crazy on Cersei and the Keep. There was no need to burn women and children. At least this show never stabbed a pregnant women in the belly – OH WAIT…

Tyrion and Jon stare in horror at what is happening. Greyworm has gone mad himself and leads the attack on the soldiers who surrendered. Jon tries to order his men back, but they’re caught up in the fight (massacre). Davros and Jon are trying to help the civilians find cover. Jon saves a women from being raped by killing one of his own men. At this point Jaime is sneaking into the Keep through the exit path Tyrion told him about when he runs into Euron the annoying. After a while, Euron stabs Jaime, but Jaime is able to strike the fatal blow to Euron. Drogon (Dany disappears the rest of the episode) starts destroying the Red Keep and Maester Frankenstein convinces Cersei it’s time to retreat. Stores of wildfire can be seen exploding which is a nod to when Dany’s father attacked King’s Landing with wildfire.

Hound and Arya finally reach their destination, but Hound talks Arya into leaving so she can live. She calls him by his first name and I cried because I love their father/daughter relationship. Cersei and guard are retreating when part of the wall falls killing some of the men. The rest are killed by Hound when he shows up to challenge his bro. Zombie Mountain disobeys Cersei and Frankstein’s orders to fight his bro. Zombie Mountain kills his Frankstein creator is one hit and Cersei casually strolls past. IN ONE CORNER, WE HAVE THE ZOMBIE MOUNTAIN CLEAGANE. IN THE OTHER, WE HAVE TORTURED YOUNGER BROTHER CLEAGANE IN THE FIGHT OF THE DECADE. Hound gets some good stabs in, but Mountain doesn’t die. Mountain does his signature crush the skull through the eyeballs move (so much cringe). Hound finally tackles his brother and they both go over the edge. RIP

*EDIT I was watching the after episode recap with the show runners and they had to point out the Hound died by fire which was his worst fear caused by his brother and I’m CRUSHED…

I think Arya is just trying to survive at this point, forget escaping the city. She sees the horrors of the burning bodies. She gets caught in a stampede as people are running over her. It cuts beautifully between Arya’s scenes and the Hound’s fight. Arya is saved by the young mother, but gets separated as more builds crumple. Arya gets knocked out by a blast and wakes up covered in ash and dust. She finds a hideout of people taking refuge and recognizes the mother and daughter. She convinces them to keep moving trying to return the favor of saving her life. They almost get run over by dothraki  but can’t out run the dragon fire. Arya takes cover as the mother and daughter burn.

Jaime and Cersei reunite in the same location they last saw each other. They embrace and cry and I think I’m rooting for incest at this point? Jaime leads her to the escape through the dragon crypts, but the path is blocked. Cersei is panicking saying she wants her baby to live. Jaime comforts her saying nothing else matters but the two of them. They embrace as the ceiling crashes down and kills them. Now as I mentioned, this is getting some hate. People wanted a more violent death for Cersei or at least something cooler than getting burried in the crypts trying to escape. I liked how she left the world the same way she came in – with Jaime. I think that was even a prophecy? Maybe I’m making that up…I think we were all predicting Arya or Dany to kill Cersei, but the show needs to stay unpredictable. That’s why we love it. The problem is they gave us 10 years to think of ideas and build hype, and now they’re having trouble meeting that expectation.

The episode ends with Arya waking up and finding everyone dead. Imagine post eruption in Pompeii. The daughter was carrying a white pony figure throughout the episode and Arya sees it in the charred remains of the mother/daughter. A white house appears and is probably a metaphor for something because they spend a lot of time on it. I read that it could be biblical – pale horse who represents death since Arya’s is pissed and going to kill Dany. It could be symbolizing honor and chivary – also biblical but more famous in mythology and medieval stories. Arya could have stayed and easy killed Cersei. She chose not too. She hasn’t used a face since she returned to Winterfell. As much as I love her killing people, I think that’s too predictable for the show. I don’t think she’s going to kill Dany.

Game of Thrones – Final Season

Episode 4

This one might have been more emotional than the last episode? We open with the funeral as the survivors say their final words to those we lost. Dany whispers something to Jorah as she mourns. Sansa weeps over Theon and gives him a Stark direwolf pin. SHOCKER GHOST IS ALIVE. Jon gives a speech about remembering their sacrifices and even throws in a line from the Night’s Watch oath. They pass out the torchs to burn the bodies. Arya with Beric, Sam with Ed, Jon with Lyanna, and Dany with Jorah.

THEN IT’S THE CELEBRATION PARTY. Gendry’s looking to celebrate one-on-one with Arya. If you know what I mean. Dany gives him a promotion and makes him Gendry Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End – big deal for a bastard who grew up as a blacksmith’s apprentice. Tyrion and Davros talk about Melisandre and the Lord of Light’s will. Tyrion says “We may have defeated them, but we still have us to contend with.” Tyrion walks over to Bran and compliments the design of the wheelchair. Bran states again how he is not the Lord of Winterfell and does not want anything anymore.

Everyone’s happy and drinking. Tyrion, Jaime, and Brienne play a Truth drinking game. Tyrion ruins the game by bringing up Brienne’s virginity. The Northern men started drinking with a toast to Dany, but switch over to respecting Jon’s leadership. Dany’s starting to feel isolated and threatened.  Tormund comes to Brienne super drunk hoping to spend the night with her, but she leaves and Jaime follows. Tormund’s heart is broken and Tryion pours him a drink. Pod finds his catch of the night – lucky girl. Tormund seems to get over it by finding a serving girl. The Hound refuses the same offer from another serving girl and Sansa joins him at the table. Hound remarks how much Sansa has changed from being a little bird to a hard leader. She even makes a joke about feeding Ramsey to his hounds. Sansa remarks that if she left King’s Landing with him, she wouldn’t be who she is today. A common theme this season.

Outside Gendry is still looking for Arya and finds her shooting her arrows. He tells her about his promotion and proposes. Arya turns him down saying she’s not a lady and that’s not the life for her. Jaime finally makes his move on Brienne – “It’s hot. I’m gonna take my shirt off. Maybe you should take yours off too” – smooth bro. Dany finds Jon and says she loves him. They finally have time to discuss Jon’s claim to the throne. FYI still not discussing the fact that they’re related. Jon does not want the throne, but Dany wants him to keep his parentage a secret from Sansa and Arya. This is similar to Jon telling Cersei the truth about bending the knee to Dany despite it ruining their allience. His honor may be the death of him – like it was for Ned.

War council clarify half the unsullied and northern men are gone. Dany wants to rip Cersei out, but Tyrion reminds her the goal is to not destroy King’s Landing. Tyrion and Jon make a plan to turn the people against Cersei. Sansa brings up that the men are exhausted and wounded. Dany refuses to wait for the army to recover and Jon defends Dany saying the army will obey. Arya and Sansa pull Jon aside for family meeting. Arya says she respects Jon for doing what he did at the time, but they don’t trust Dany. When Sansa and Arya talk about being the last of the Starks, Jon and Bran finally tell them about who he really is. He swears them to secrecy but shocker that doesn’t work.

Tyion and Jaime have bro talk when Bron shows up with his crossbow. Tyrion talks too much and gets punched in the nose. Bron is doing what’s best for Bron and offers the Lannister brothers a chance to double her offer. Cersei offered him Riverrun, so Tryion offers him Highgarden. Arya and the Hound ride together south to take care of their seperate business. They both remark that they don’t plan on surviving. Dany is with her dragons as they take a test flight. Jon’s dragon is still injured but he can stay up. Tyrion finds Sansa on the wall and they talk about Dany’s qualities as a queen. After much debate, Sansa tells Tyrion Jon’s secret. Jon is taking the King’s Road south and says goodbye to Tormund. Tormund says he’s taking the wildlings back to Castle Back and JON FREAKING GIVES HIM GHOST AND DOESN’T SAY GOODBYE TO HIS OWN DOG AFTER ALMOST GETTING HIM KILLED IN BATTLE. Next he says goodbye to Gilly and Sam. TOTALLY CALLED GILLY WAS PREG FYI. I CALLED IT.

Sidenote I was wondering about the symbolism of leaving Ghost behind. Direwolf is the mascot of House Stark and in season 1 all the Stark kids were given a baby from the litter. Jon’s was the albino runt since he was the bastard son (or cousin). Does leaving Ghost is the north represent leaving his Stark identity? He also chose not to ride the dragon which could represent him not accepting his Targaryean identity. He will always just be Snow. OR I’m reading too much into it.

As they sail south, Tyion shares the Jon information with Varys. Tyrion is torn on the best thing to do, but Varys will do what is best for the realm which could mean treason against Dany in favor of Jon. There are many teasers to Dany becoming mad like her Father. Tyrion jokes Cersei winning and killing them would solve all their problems. Dany’s fleet arrives at King’s Landing where they are ambushed with scorpions from the castle and Euron’s fleet.  WE LOSE A DRAGON. It happened so fast. I was still in denial when he fell into the sea. Dany retreats with her only surviving dragon and the scorpions turn their attention to destroying the ships. Dany’s army, Tyrion, Greyworm, and Varys swim defeated to the beach. Greyworm screams for Mesandai who has been taken captive by Cersei. Again, Cersei proves she’s a better strategist then Dany by using the people. Cersei tells Euron she’s pregnant with his child (not Jaime’s).  Dany’s war council is looking for a backup plan. Dany wants to charge the city, but Varys advices patience. Dany says her destiny is to free the world from tyrants (by becoming one herself). Tyion wants peace as well and proposes they meet with Cersei.

Jaime finds out about the ambush from Brienne and decides to LEAVE BRIENNE AND GO TO HIS SISTER. WHAT. A. JERK. I have been shipping their relationship for years and regret it all in this one decision. Brienne should have chose Tormund. Jaime, I get it. She’s your twin. You’re in love. BUT YOU HAD A CHANCE TO BE BETTER AND YOU FAILED. Poor Brienne lost her viginity and then got her heart ripped out.

Dany’s party arrives at the wall to King’s Landing. Cersei and crew are on the top with Mesandai, but Maester Frankenstein goes out to talk with Tyrion – hand to hand. They discuss each others term for surrender. Tyrion really tries to avoid bloodshed, but Frankenstein is like nah bro. Tyrion walks past Frankenstein to talk directly to Cersei. Why hasn’t she killed him yet?? Tyrion tries to use her pregnacy to apply to her reasonable side. Cersei gives the order for the Mountain to behead Mesandai. Saddest part about this for me is 1) Mesandai dies in chains after growing up as a slave and 2) poor Greyworm. Between the dragon and Mesandai, Dany is about to Hulk out.

Game of Thrones – Final Season

Episode 3 – it’s a long one

One comment I have for this episode is the soundtrack or lack of in some cases. OMG it was good. This opening was fairly quiet with little music and little talking. We see shots of the army and each of our beloved characters as we wonder who will survive. Then the classical music at the end of the episode as the tension builds.

First, the red priestess, Melisandre, shows up after being banished and provides some firepower. UMM what was the plan before she showed up? Send the dorthraki charging in on a suicide mission? Seems dumb. Anyway, Jorah and Ghost are on the front lines with the dorthraki. Jorah retreats back but Ghost disappears…again. Another gush is the lighting in this particular scene. The episode is getting some hate for being too dark, but the lit swords charging looked so good. After they sent the dorthraki charging in on a suicide mission, Dany mounts Drogon for some air cover as the dead charge towards Winterfell. Jon joins on the other dragon.

The battle begins and I am stressed for the next 60 minutes.

Brienne gets pinned down, but Jaime saves her. The Night King summons a winter storm to make it hard to see for the dragons and the army. Arya gives Sansa the dagger that was used to try and kill Bran. She tells Sansa to go to the crypts and “stick them with the pointy end” which was a fun call back. Sam almost dies, but Ed saves him only to get stabbed in the back for his effort. (Yes, I finally learned his name once he died). RIP Ed.

They opened the gates for the retreating army. I didn’t know the plan at the time, but I felt like they kept the gates open too long. Turns out they had to Unsullied to protect the gate. Arya saves the Hound’s life with an arrow while he’s retreating. I loved this because they have grown from wanting to kill each other to protecting each other. Greyworm falls back with the retreat and makes the decision to clapse the bridge and burn the trench with his remaining men on the other side. With the clouds, Dany can’t see the signal to light the trench. The army tries arrows and torch bearers but nothing is working. Melisandre steps up with the help of Greyworm to provide the firepower. There is a moment of doubt as dead get closer and the fire doesn’t light. Good moment for her character, and she finally gets the trench lit. The assault pauses as the dead wait. The Hound has a PTSD moment with the fire.

The battle gets broken up with scenes from the crypt. Tyrion is feeling useless and wants to help. Sansa points out that they are all powerless. “The most heroic thing they can do now is to look the truth in the face.” Tyion comments that maybe they should have stayed married. Sansa remarks that he was the best of them (meaning Ramsey and I’m also including Joffery). He replies what a terrifying thought. I love their characters. Sansa ruins the moment again by pointing out they wouldn’t work because of their divided loyalties with Dany. There’s another good scene back in the godswood with Theon and Bran. Theon tried to apologize but Bran says the same thing that he did to Jamie. Everything they did in the past brought them here to this moment. Bran says Theon is home then peaces out to scout for the Night King as a raven. Night King decides to use that moment to order the dead to continuing the charge, using their own bodies to put out the fire and cross the trench. The dead continue to stack on top of each other to climb the castle walls. Great visual effects.

Jaime gets surrounded and Brienne saves him. Sam gets stucks again and Jorah saves him with the Tarly sword. Arya kicks some ass on the wall, but takes some hard hits after. The Hound finally snaps out of his PTSD when Beric points out Arya needs help. Poor Lyanna Mormont gets hit by a giant, but takes a stand. He crushes her in the saddest way possibly, but she gets the last word by stabbing him in the eye with dragonglass. RIP Lyanna. Also I applaud the David and Goliath moment with a little girl versus a freaking zombie giant. THIS. SHOW.

We get a good video game moment with Arya sneaking around trying to avoid the wrights in the library. They seemed to have forgotten there was a battle happening outside and was just browsing the books. Can’t say I blame them. Arya does the classic throw something as a distraction to get out of the room, only to make noise closing the door. Then we get a good horror chance sequence. Side note: Did arya use her new weapon from Gendry?? I saw a bow and a spear but no launcher? Was it the spear and I just missed it? Anyway, the Hound and Beric find Arya and save her. Beric throws his flaming sword and stays behind to give Hound and Arya time to escape. RIP Beric. They take shelter and happen to find Melisandre also in the room. I honestly forgot she and Arya met before. She says Beric’s purpose was to save Arya, so Arya could fulfill her prophecy. Blue eyes. Arya takes off leaving the Hound and Melisandre.

The three dragons fight in the sky with their riders until they manage to knock the Night King off. All the dragons take some damage in the fight. Dany finds the Night King on the ground, but quickly realizes dragon fire doesn’t hurt him. She retreats to avoid his spear and Jon charges from behind. The Night King raises the dead all over Winterfell to increase his army and cut off Jon specifically. Dany comes to Jon’s rescue since he’s surrounded, but manages to get thrown from Drogon in the process. Jon races to Bran’s aid. Getting surrounded herself, Dany gets rescued by Jorah. When the Night King raised the dead, this included the bodies in the crypt – where the women and children (and Tyrion and Varys) where hiding. Sansa and Tyrion hide behind a tomb while the women and children are getting attacked. Sansa takes out the danger and they nonverbally agree to go out fighting. I love their weird relationship.

The dead reach the godswood and the Ironborn hold their own for an impressive amount of time until Theon is the last one standing. Bran gives him the final confirmation that he is a good man. Theon charges towards the Night King and gets stabbed. RIP Theon

Jorah is defending Dany, but gets stabbed one too many times…RIP Jorah. Got to give it to Dany for picking up a sword and trying to contribute.

Jon races towards Bran, sees Sam in trouble, AND CONTINUES MOVING. I GET IT’S THE GREATER GOOD BUT HELP A BRO OUT. Viserys shows up and Jon can’t get past. I was kinda hoping for a Jon is a Targaeryn so he can’t burn reveal, but we didn’t get that. A lot of people are complaining about the dragon fight considering it destroyed the wall, but can’t kill Jon. Jon faces the dragon and yells. I read a theory that this was to let Arya pass. Another side note (sorry not sorry): I liked this moment for Jon’s character although I don’t know what it means. He lost Battle of the Bastards and Sansa came to the rescue. He lost Battle of Winterfell and Arya came to the rescue.

Bran and the Night King have a bit of a staring contest and I wonder if there’s anything deeper then the “I’m about to kill you”/”I’m about to die”. I don’t have motivation for either character and it annoys me. Do they have history? Anyway, Arya shows up ex machina and kills the Night King. The wrights clapse and the battle is over. Bran does another stare with Arya and I can’t tell if he’s not surprised, impressed, sad…WHAT IS HE THINKING?! The survivors stumble around in shock that they actually survived. Melisandre walks out to the open field, takes off her eternal youth necklace, and dies. RIP Melisandre.

Note: we saw the extinction of House Mormont and I’m upset

Game of Thrones – Final Season

Episode 2 –

Jaime was my man this episode! We open with his “trial” in front of Dany. Things aren’t looking good for him with Dany and Sansa agreeing not to trust him. Brienne steps in to speaks on his behalf and swings Sansa’s vote. Bran drops, “The things we do for love” and literally had me screaming. For those of you who don’t remember, that’s what Jaime said to Cersei when he tried to kill Bran 10 years ago. After the trial, Dany confronts Tryion about his mistakes and Tyrion admits he was a fool.

Arya checks in with Gendry to see if her weapon is ready. Arya asks for details about the white walkers, specifically how to kill them. Gendry admits that’s she’s brave but these things are next level. Arya doesn’t bat an eye when she goes into the Faceless Man speech while throwing knives to prove her fighting skills. Gendry was turned on.

Jaime walks up to Bran in the godswood to apologize. Bran points out neither of them would be who they are today if that incident never happened. Tyrion and Jaime reunion. They discuss Dany as a queen. Tyrion asks Jaime if Cersei was lying about the baby and Jaime said it’s real. I still don’t know if I believe her or not…Jaime said Cersei fooled him more than anyone. Tyrion points out Jaime always knew but loved her anyway. Tyrion says at least Cersei won’t kill me if the white walkers do, not knowing she sent Bron to kill him. Jaime spots Brienne and goes down to see her while she’s observing Pod’s training. Jaime admits he’s not as good of a fighter as he used to be, but asks if he could serve under her command. Brienne is shy and walks away.

Jorah talks to Dany about Tyrion’s mistakes. Tyrion owns his mistakes, learns from them. Jorah tells Dany to forgive Tryion and asks for one other suggestion. Before he can ask it, the scene cuts to Dany and Sansa. I was honestly kinda hoping for Dany to ask Sansa to be her Hand or at least advisor of some kind. I still feel like Jorah’s request has to do with Sansa. I loved this girl power scene. Dany asks why Sansa is being unfriendly. Sansa admits it’s because Dany is manipulating lovesick Jon. Dany admits to Sansa that she loves Jon back and he’s the one who manipulated her to fight for the North. Sansa warms up after that. UNTIL she asks about the fate of the North after the war. They both are interrupted by the arrival of Theon who wants to fight for Winterfell. Sansa and Theon have an emotional embrance.

Davros is serving food and giving pep talks. A little girl with a burn on her face wants to fight with her brothers wants to fight. Poor Davros has a soft spot for strong little girls. Gilly joins and suggests the girl defend the crypt. A horn blows announcing the arrival of the Night’s Watch, Beric, and wildlings. Tormund tackles Jon out of nowhere in hilarious Tormund fashion. They deliver the bad news that the army with be there by morning. Tormund starts looking for Brienne. The war council start strategizing. If they kill the Knight King, they kill all of them. Bran informs everyone that the Knight King will try to kill him as the Three Eyed Raven. Bran agrees to be bait in the godswood and Theon will defend him with the Ironborn to make up for stealing the castle from him before. Dany sends Tyrion to the crypt saying he’s too valuable to loose. Everyone disperses and Tryion uses the opportunity to catch up on Bran’s story. Greyworm and Meisande have a moment saying when the fighting is over, they will retire to the beaches of Narth and live happily ever after. Sam asks Jon if he’s told Dany yet. Sam recommends doing it at the right moment. GHOST FINALLY IS IN THE SHOT. Sam lists his manly resume. Samwell Tarly slayer of white walkers and lover of ladies.

Tyrion and Jaime joke about how they are going to die defending Winterfell of all places. Jaime asks if Tyrion misses being a whoremonger. Tyrion admits he does, but it’s not an option for him anymore. “The perils of self betterment” Brienne, Pod, Davros, Tormund join for beer and fire and companionship. Lovely triange between Tormund, Jaime, and Brienne. Tormund hilariously tries to impress them by telling them his giant story and chugging his drink. Tyrion points out everyone in the room has fought the Starks at one point and goes into a pep talk about their accomplishments. THEN MY ADORABLE JAIME KNIGHTS BRIENNE AND SHE IS SO HAPPY AND I SHIP THEM SO HARD.  Tyrion requests a song and my boy Pod steps up with golden pipes! What can’t that kid do?

Arya finds the Hound and shares his drink. He points out that she’s quieter. She asks what he’s doing fighting for others instead of himself. Beric joins and Hound says “May as well be at a bloody wedding.” Arya leaves refusing to spend her final hours with the old, grumpy men. INSTEAD SHE’S GETS SOME. To be fair, she was practicing archery when Gendry delivered her weapon. She didn’t seek him out. He tells her about his father, and she asks about his sex life. She says she doesn’t want to die a virgin. THEN THEY DO IT. My baby girl is all grown up. Oh and props to Gendry for staring at her scars and not her boobs (at first). Also pretty sure Gendry was the only person who got any sleep that night.

Jorah gets in a debate with little cousin Lyanna, Lady Mormont and it’s adorable. Sam interrupts and speaks to Jorah. He gives his Valyran steel sword to Jorah in honor of Jorah’s father. Episode ends with Jon and Dany in the crypts at Lyanna Stark’s grave. He tells Dany about his true parents. Dany asks how he knows this and doesn’t believe it when he says his best friend and his brother told him. Jon actually calls her Dany (which is a book thing. Only her brother called her Dany in the show). Dany’s take away from the conversation is that he’s the last male heir of House Targaryen…not that she’s in love with her nephew. Episode ends with the dead arriving to Winterfell. No sign of the dragon yet.

Game of Thrones – Final Season

Episode 1 –

Dany, Jon, and crew arriving to Winterfell. Arya is standing in the crowd observing while Sansa and Bran receive them at the castle. It parallels well with Robert arriving from Season 1. The Northern cities retreat to Winterfell to make their stand now that the Wall has fallen. The people of the North are not thrilled that Jon bent the knee to Dany. Sansa and Tyrion have a reunion moment which was so satisfying to watch. Tyrion admits that Sansa has been underestimated, and Sansa is disappointed to learn that Tyrion isn’t as clever as she once thought. We go to the Jon and Arya reunion WHICH I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. After comparing swords, Jon is shocked to hear the Arya is on Sansa’s side. Arya reminds him that he is part of the family and they are trying to defend the family.

We travel across the county to King’s Landing where Euron’s ships have returned with the Golden Company provided by the Iron Bank. Yara is still being held captive in Euron’s cabin. Euron has a moment with Cersei that I would love to analyze more. I’m not a fan of her character, but that was a Cersei moment I liked. She allowed Euron to sleep with her and cried when he left. Was she thinking about the hit she just put out on Jaime? Her unborn child? Is she actually pregnant? Scene change to Bronn. Maester Frankenstein comes in with orders from the Queen. If Jaime and Tyrion survive the battle, Cersei wants Bronn to kill them WITH THE CROSSBOW TRYION USED TO KILL HIS FATHER. This scene had me screaming. Bronn is relatively good friends with Jaime and Tryion. I don’t think he would kill them. That is to say, I really, really hope he doesn’t kill them, but he might for the rewards the Queen could give him. He does what he thinks is best to stay alive, even if it’s a hard decision. While Euron is with Cersei, Theon and his men rescue Yara and sail back to the Iron Island. Yara realizes that Theon wants to go to Winterfell and help the Starks and gives him permission to go.

Back in Winterfell, Tyion, Varys, and Davros discuss a proposal between Dany and Jon who definitely have chemistry. Jon rides a dragon as he and Dany have a How to Train Your Dragon moment. They kiss by a waterfell while the dragons watch intensely. Gendry makes an axe for the Hound when Arya shows up for a reunion with both characters. She is cold towards the Hound since he is still on her list, but you can tell he’s pleased to see her. Arya gets kind of flirty with Gendry when she requests him to make her a weapon that seems to cover long distance which is better than her little Valerian steel knife. Sansa questions whether Jon bent the knee for the North or because he loves Dany. Jorah takes Dany to meet Sam so she can thank him for saving Jorah’s life. She realizes halfway that he is a Tarly and breaks the news that she executed his father and brother. Sam’s reaction was great. When Sam hears that his father is dead, he takes it fairly well. However, when he hears that his brother also died,  Sam is more emotional and starts crying. He runs out of the room to discover Bran. Bran informs him it’s time to tell Jon about his parents and Sam should do it because he’s more of a brother than Bran ever was. Sam confronts Jon and asks if he knew Dany killed his family – he didn’t. Sam uses this to point out that Jon wouldn’t have killed them and Jon would be a better King. Jon’s first reaction about his parentage was anger towards honorable Ned Stark for lying to him. Ned only lied to protect Jon from Robert killing him. Jon is then conflicted towards his alligence to Dany and his birthright.

We then go north of Winterfell, but south of the Wall. Tormund, Beric, and crew are searching the remains of a castle. It’s a tense scene with the promise of a jump scare that comes when you finally relax. First they run into the Night’s Watch, who also rode to join up with the Northern army. They find the remains of the little Lord Umber hanging on the wall with the White Walker spiral symbol. Turns out little Lord Umber isn’t quite dead. He’s…undead. The 50 minute episode ends with Jaime arriving in Winterfell. Of course the first person he would see is the boy he tried to murder in Season 1. Jaime’s face is priceless with guilt and Bran is crushing the three eyed raven bitch face.

Movie Critic 2: The Sequel

Today I saw Shazam.

“Wait, isn’t Shazam going to be released in theaters on April 5”

Yes. Yes, it is. I managed to get early access to see it 2 weeks early. Because I have friends in high places. The bank. I paid for the early access ticket. Anyone could have seen it early. Thanks, Fandango.

Here’s my limited knowledge of Shazam going into the movie. It’s a DC comic. The character named Shazam is a old wizard mentor character – not the superhero. Shazam bestoys powers to Billy who becomes Captain Marvel. “Wait, isn’t Captain Marvel that female hero from Marvel comics” Yes, there’s two. Try to keep up. Actually, that’s all I know going in. I don’t know how accurate the movie will be compared to the comic book storyline.

I liked it. It was goofy and action packed. It was exactly what you would expect from a superhero movie centered around a 14 year old getting powers. I like the improvements DC is making with its movies.

Movie throws you right in with an intense backstory, but surprisingly not the hero. We see our first glimpse at the wizard, temple, and the seven deadly sins. Shazam is growing weak and is recruiting for a pure of heart replace to guard the world from the seven deadly sins being released. The sins are also recruiting for their own champion to release them.

We got a good number of characters. Protagonist, Billy, got separated from his mom at a carnival and ended up in the foster system. After running away from several homes attempting to find his parents, he ends up in a group home with five other kids. His new roommate (and best friend) is we call a ‘comic book geek’. There are tons of Superman and Batman easter eggs throughout the movie – some more obvious than others.

Plot ensues when villain gets powers and hero gets powers. Billy starts taking advantage of his adult form by skipping school, buying beer*, and going to strip clubs. Billy and  side kick, Freddy, become recognized by youtube videos, selfies, and performances – not responsible hero work. Villian doesn’t require training montage so instead we get a dark scene of him getting his revenge.

*side note: This is set in PA. You can’t buy beer in a gas station. Do your research people.

I’m not going to summarize the ending to keep you in suspense, but you can assume it’s a hero v. villian boss battle with an interesting twist. Overall, it was enjoyable. I’m also extremely partical to Zachary Levi because he’s perfect.

BTW: There’s a mid-credit scene and end credit. End credit isn’t crucial to stay for, but has a funny joke. Mid-credit scene teases sequel.

Being Single is a Gift

Is it possible to single and happy?

Um yes!

Can we please stop with single awareness out there? Most say the solution to being single is getting a relationship. Being single isn’t a problem that needs a solution. Also, getting in a relationship isn’t going to solve all your problems. Disclaimer: being in a relationship isn’t bad. This is just pointing out that being single isn’t bad either.

Can we please stop putting pressure on single relatives by asking about their dating life? Sorry, 2nd cousin twice removed, but it’s NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS that I still don’t have a boyfriend.

For those of you who don’t know my personal experience with dating, I don’t have any. 23 years old and never been kissed. Yes, I know it’s shocking for most people. However, I am an expert at being single. I’ve been asked on dates, and sometimes I go out, but it never goes past that. I say this to point out that I like being single. Do you know the things you can do? ANYTHING. Your schedule can be full of things you want to do at time you want without compromising. Do you know who else was single? JESUS. Also, a partner is not your “better half”. They will not “complete you”. You are a complete version of yourself.

I have an old fashion view of dating and relationships. I never read the book “I kissed dating goodbye”, but I’ve been told that I would enjoy it. I view dating as courting with the intention of marriage. At this stage of my life, I’m still figuring myself out. I’m not ready for marriage, so why date? Do I still pick out wedding colors and baby names? Of course, it’s fun! But I’m in no hurry to walk down an aisle. Unless it’s the candy aisle on February 15.

On a more serious note. As a Christian, I believe that being single comes with it’s own responsibility. Paul writies in 1 Corinthians 7:7-8 about some people are blessed with the gift of marriage and others are blessed with singleness. The responsibility for both types of people is still to use their gifts to glorify God. If your goals in life is to get married and have kids, then that’s great! But it shouldn’t become an idol for you. God might have plans for you to accomplish before family life. Personally, I started volunteering with Operation Christmas Child. I’ve also spent time with the local food bank and Habitat for Humanity. You can use your time to minister to others using your other spiritual gifts whether it’s serving or teaching.

There are some obstacles to overcome for people who aren’t used to doing things solo. At first, it was weird for me to go to the movies alone, explore the city, tour musuems, go to the zoo, and take vacations. I don’t eat out anymore for budgeting reasons, but honestly, that one is still awkward #tableforone. BUT doing things independently can give you freedom and help you understand yourself. Treat yourself to some self-love activities. Light a candle and take a bath. Take a hike through the woods. Start journaling. Do a social media cleanse. Join a spin class. Pick up a craft. There are tons of ideas online to find ways to enjoy your alone time. Learn to understand yourself and what you want and need. Then, once you’re ready, apply that to improve future relationships. Also, being alone can bring you closer to family and friends.

Obviously this is a huge topic to tackle and I don’t have all the answers, so I’m gonna leave it here. I don’t expect this to really impact anyone single, but maybe it’ll let them know they’re not alone and it’s ok. If nothing else, it’ll get everyone to stop asking about my nonexistence dating life.

Girl Talk!

Ok. I’m doing it. I’m closing my eyes and pressing “post”. That’s what you do with blogs, right?

If you’re wondering why I went with the name “Too much information”, now you’ll start to understand. Men, you aren’t “not allowed” to read this. Just know it’s a lot of girl talk. With that being said, I think guys who have sisters have better understanding than guys who don’t. These men who grew up with women are better prepared for dealing with girlfriends and wives when situations come up. I think topics like this should be discussed more, not necessarily openly, but we need to increase awareness and education about a freaking normal bodily function. I had the Christian school version of “sex ed” freshman year of high school, when I was definitely immature and too embarrassed to pay serious attention. Now that I want to know more, it’s kinda awkward to learn. I don’t want to google because who knows what I’ll find, and I don’t just want to talk to every female I know for their experience.

In 2017, I was taking my usual commute to work. It was a hot August so I chose a cute pencil skirt and comfy flats. I got ready and walked all the way to the metro station without any problem. It was crowded with the 7am morning commute so I was forced to stand for the ride. It probably was a combination of locking my knees, being dehydrated, and being on my period. Yep, I said the p-word. Anyway, it didn’t take long for me to over heat, get light headed, and start blacking out. I never actually passed out, but I got close enough to take a seat on the floor. I managed to stumble off the train at my stop for work, but sat on a bench for a few minutes before finally calling in sick and making the whole trip back (unpaid sick day btw).

That wasn’t the only time something like this has happened. My periods are the worst.

There has been times during worship at church I’ve had to take a seat because I was lightheaded. Once I had to leave the service and drive home because I was so nauseous. I had to take an unexcused absence from class because my female professor said I needed a doctors note to skip class even after I explained what was happening. (Will a doctor give a note for cramps? Because they should)

Being sick once a month was becoming pretty regular. Naturally, I did the adult thing and scheduled my first appointment with a OB-GYN. Not gonna lie. It was uncomfortable. I will say if you’re nervous about having a male doctor, it doesn’t matter. It’s gonna be awkward either way. Anyway the doctor prescribed me some birth control pills for my symptoms and I took them for a whole year. WORST DECISION EVER.

Quick side tangent: I told one of my close guy friends that I was on BCP and he freaked. It came to my attention that a lot of guys don’t know the multiple purposes of BCP. It’s more than just stopping conception. It helps with cramps, PMS, and anemia (like my case). It regulates periods and even helps control acne. So I’d appreciate it if people would stop assuming I’m sleeping around just because I tell them I’m on BCP.

Back to my story. My year on the pill was full of the same symptoms I was trying to prevent plus crazy moodiness. I know now, if a pill isn’t working for you after 3-4 months, try a new prescription. I ended up breaking down crying for no reason while catching up with a guy friend. Poor soul. I’m sure I really worried him. I had a good laugh about it later.

Another thing about birth control, you have to take it at the exact same time every. single. day. For my case, I had to take it within the hour or I would have miserable consequences. I know a lot of people who take it in the morning. Personally, I’m not going to wake up early on weekends to take a pill and I’m not bringing it to take at work. I take mine at 10pm every night, because that’s my bedtime. There have been lots of cases where I stay out late and forget. Can’t forget about time change either. I traveled from DC to Iceland to California in one month and had to plan for the times. That one was tricky: 7pm in DC, 11 pm in Iceland (often asleep before then), and 4pm in California (which was just awkward).

I finished the year prescription and needed another appointment to get more. I found a new doctor who was super helpful and explained that what I was going through was not normal like I assumed. She kinda scolded my for being so ignorant. It was great.

As I type this, I am halfway through pack 4 of the new pill and have yet to have a period. That’s 3 months late. After teasing myself about being the virgin mother to the Antichrist, I did some research and found out my reaction is normal and my period should regulate soon. If not, I have a scheduled check in with my lady doctor and I will bring it up then. And while I’m still worried about not having my period, it’s been amazing not having to deal with it.

In closing, talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Do your own research! Learn about you body. High school health class doesn’t cover it all. Also, my mom was very involved in this process with me. Even though she didn’t understand it all either, she was super supportive. Find a female role model or mentor that you’re comfortable talking about this stuff with. Also, I’m obviously not an expert, but I’m here to talk.
